Our program provides comprehensive training in multisensory, structured language education for individuals aspiring to become Dyslexia Therapists.
The coursework encompasses thorough instruction utilizing "Take Flight": A Comprehensive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia, a two-year curriculum developed by the professionals at the Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia & Learning Disorders at Scottish Rite for Children. Throughout this curriculum, we have integrated the five crucial components of effective reading instruction, as identified by research from the National Reading Panel. Students who successfully complete this research-based intervention program demonstrate significant advancements in all facets of reading.
"Take Flight" is specifically tailored for use by Certified Academic Language Therapists, focusing on children aged seven and older who have dyslexia. The program is designed for either a four-day schedule (60 minutes per day) or a five-day schedule (45 minutes per day). It is intended for personalized or small group instruction, with a maximum of six students per class.
After effectively finishing Therapy-Level Training and passing the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA) Competency Exam, individuals with a Master's degree will be granted certification as a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) by ALTA.
For those who complete thorough therapy-level training and pass the ALTA CALT exam without holding a master's degree, they can become a CALT-Candidate (CALT-C) with ALTA. These candidates will have an additional five years to obtain a Master’s degree.
